Server Officer Manifesto 2025/26
Server? I hardly know ‘er!
About Me
- Currently 1st year CompSci
- Decidedly average at every game I play
- Been on the god-forsaken platform called Discord since 2017
- Wasted a good 7 hours of my life adding markdown rendering and a post system to my website just to render this for me
- Did in fact copy and paste half of this from my esports manifesto
Experience
-
Managing Online Communities
I personally run a technical Minecraft server with hundreds of members, where I manage both the Discord server and the Minecraft servers, including creating a custom moderation bot to improve logging of user actions. -
Using Mods
With my experience with running servers, I’ve come across various mods, both moderation and content. This means that I’ve learnt how to pick up mods quickly, pick apart their configs, and then use them to their fullest, hopefully leading to a seamless transition if I’m elected. -
And creating them too
I’m in the middle of creating a moderation system for the server I run, with a full web interface for whitelisting and player management. I’m also starting to pick up development for other mods so that I can take over maintaining some of my friend’s mods, one of which has over 500k downloads on Modrinth.
Aims for 2025/26
-
Minigames!
Minigames are fun, right? I’ve a bunch of pre-configured minigames saved and ready to be spun up at a moment’s notice, so we can hopefully run some little competitions within the sever (bedwars??) -
Switch to Fabric
PaperMC sucks. It’s time to switch to a more modern server software, and that is Fabric. Yes it may need mods switching, but I’ve been managing a server which is using Fabric for years, so I’ve got drop-in replacements for anything we may need. -
Other Dedicated Servers??
Whilst perhaps not as easy as the others, I run my own network of servers online (with 100% uptime) that I could use to host dedicated servers for other games if we so please (even if it’s just for an online social).
Why Me?
Minecraft servers are notoriously difficult things, and they take a lot of care and attention to get working right, so you need someone with experience, and I have plenty. Having been running a server where we both have a creative and survival, both of which are full of massive redstone contraptions, and I’ve managed to keep it running without lag.
I’m always online so I’ll always catch pings or DMs and be able to respond to anything that needs my attention quickly. I’m also around at most in-person events and so I’m always free to have a chat about anything, society-related or not.
In terms of general committee input, as a fresher this year I’m also in the perfect position to improve the initial experience within the community via the committee, so hopefully more members remain engaged with the community, and for longer.
